Freedom March

Walking Protest from Toronto to Ottawa against the ongoing Uyghur Genocide in China

Toronto, ON: Today, Bilal Malik, member of the East Turkistan Association of Canada announced that he would start a Freedom March from Toronto Old City Hall at 2 pm to Ottawa with the goal of raising awareness for the ongoing Uyghur Genocide happening in East Turkistan (aka Xinjiang, China). Bilal will start the march from July 04 and will walk 15 days, culminating in a journey which will see him travel nearly 400 km and arrive at Trudeau’s Ottawa office July 19th at 11 am.

Along with raising awareness for the Uyghur oppression occurring in East Turkistan, Bilal aims to “Honour the victims of the July 5th Urumqi massacre by the Chinese government, and pressure the Trudeau government to take action following the passing of the motion to recognize the Uyghur oppression as genocide back in February.” Furthermore, Bilal has a list of other objectives he hopes to achieve with this march:

  • To call for the Boycott of the 2022 Beijing Olympic games due to the ethical implications of China hosting the event while committing genocide
  • As well, Bilal is aiming to get the Canadian government to aid in the Uyghur refugee crisis happening due to Chinese governments oppressive policies towards Uyghurs

About East Turkistan Association of Canada: The East Turkistan Association of Canada is a grassroots organization operating in major Canadian cities all over Canada to raise awareness for Uyghur oppression and to call people to action in standing with Human rights.
